Friday Bring the family to watch "Up" on an inflatable screen in Parkville. Towson's Feet on the Street has the band Rumba Club. Technicolor Motor Home, a Steely Dan tribute band, plays at the Recher Theatre in Towson. The Boss as in: Bruce Springsteen plays at Nationals Park. Saturday The first Charm City Music Festival hosts Weezer, Flogging Molly, Eve 6 and more at the Harbor East waterfront. Towson University hosts its football home opener against William and Mary. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network. The Tigers and Tribe are both 0-1 after showdowns at higher-division foes (Kent State and Maryland, respectively). The Orioles are in the driver's seat on their way to what could be their first postseason appearance since the Clinton administration. Get your tickets in advance—Thursday's game, which includes the dedication of Cal Ripken Jr.'s statue, is sold out. Friday Wildlife expert and television personality Jack Hanna will speak at Goucher College in a fundraiser for the Maryland Zoo. The Maryland State Fair opens this weekend in Timonium.
All weekend The Maryland State Fair opens for its 131st year at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Thursday is Ride Mania. Ride all night long for $16. The fair officially opens Friday. Check out the fair's website for details, a schedule and specials. Cirque du Soleil's Dralion performs several high-flying shows at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. The Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays to kick off a seven-game home stand. Friday Feet on the Street visits Allegheny Avenue. As of this writing, the band for this Friday had yet to be announced. Mike McFadden's career is taking off with recent national commercials and a new album.
Mike McFadden recalls how skeptical his parents were when he decided to forgo college to pursue a music career. "I wasn't really that good then, so they must have really thought I was crazy," he said. "But it's amazing now, when I tell my mom every once a week, when I get home, 'Yeah, I just sold three more commercials to Pennzoil.'" The Towson resident and 2006 Towson High graduate recently released a new album, "Heartbeat/Rapture," and after spending years making a name for himself on the Baltimore scene, he's gearing up to move this fall to New York in search of new opportunities. The school will host the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra starting this fall.
When it opens this fall, the new building for the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology will be an artistic hub for more than just its own students. Baltimore County Public Schools announced Friday that the school will be the new home of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra. The orchestra, an initiative of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will continue the work of the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra, which is set to cease operations at the end of the month. “Having the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras housed at Carver Center will provide opportunities and outreach to our students with musical enrichment activities,” Karen E. Two British soccer teams host a friendly match in Baltimore and the annual Otakon celebration returns to the Baltimore Convention Center.
