ReplyI am a teacher with Baltimore County and I love kids! However, when I moved to MC 10 years ago I was not made aware of the school that may be built, or the pool on Padonia road. We already have an overabundance of traffic on Padonia road, not to mention the elderly residents who are are driving in the 'hood. (Some who obviously should not be). Imagine the traffic, the cars and busses, all trying to drive on our already overtaxed roads. How can that be safe for children, not to mention the residents that live here? I have no claim to the park, have not used it, but my concern is about the congestion in an already congested area. BCPS obviously did not do an unbiased safety and traffic study for the area.

ReplyHe was a vulnerable adult (elderly). It doesn't matter what the circumstances are in his death. He passed away probably alone, without heat and without anyone to care for him. Shame on those of you who want to know what happened (it's really none of your business), blame it on mental illness or homelessness. Have some compassion and look out for our fellow beings.

ReplySome of the beaurocrats need to come into our classrooms and see what it is like for us and the students. Not fun and not easy. Sweating and not being able to breathe does not bode well for a conducive learning environment.

ReplyI hope that Hairston will be held accountable for this (and any other) actions that he felt entitled to create during his tenure. I'm sure that this is just the beginning. It's supposed to be about the students...

ReplyUnfortunately, it is politics, as usual. Incompetent teachers (and administrators) are moved around instead of being let go. And the persons at the top are being paid double and triple what the teachers are. It is refreshing to see changes from DD and I am hopeful that he will be able to clean up and listen to the teachers (me) and allow us to do what we do best, teach! The students need us now more than ever.

ReplyYikes! I am not looking forward to a new school year teaching at a new school this year with this in effect. It will be very interesting to see how this pans out. Everyone that has written in has a good point.

ReplyI graduated from Mervo (Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School) in Baltimore City even though I was definitely a college bound student. It was the best thing I could have ever done! I now teach in my field and have taught and/or are very familiar with the schools mentioned. In the last 5 years or so they have been pushing college for all of my students whether they are capable or not. The county still has Eastern Tech, Western Tech and Sollers Point Tech. They all are exceptional Technical schools but unfortunately the emphasis is on college and not on obtaining marketable skills for those students that either cannot afford college or are really not college material. I am glad to see that this topic has come up again.

Spence98,
First off, I am not a senior citizen, secondly, I did live in the country before moving to MCN and you really did not have to be rude and tell me to move to the country! As for reviewing county documents before "moving into a growth area", the comments before said that it should have been made known to me before I bought in the area, but, that doesn't matter, I still would be here. Busses, that I already pass on a regular day? Maybe one, once or twice a week, on Padonia Road, not 23, twice a day as proposed. And, those busses, that do stop to pick up children are not elementary school children, they are middle and high school kids. This whole argument has to do with the fact that BCPS had already made up their mind that this is what they are going to do, regardless of the fact that in 1974 all of the homes and traffic were not a factor then. No matter how many studies are done by them, they make sure that it is done only in their favor. I do know from experience with BCPS.
