Urgent Care Center For Children Opens In Towson
TOWSON, MD — Children's Urgent Care is now open on Loch Raven Boulevard at Joppa Road. The area had been under construction for months, as crews converted the location from its former use as a bank.
"During the 2020 rezoning process, I blocked an oil change company from building at the former First Mariner bank location at Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard," Councilman David Marks said in a statement Wednesday. "I simply thought there were too many businesses of this type at an intersection that really needs a facelift."
In fact, Marks started a task force around the Loch Raven corridor to discuss revitalization.
"Today, I joined local business leader Jordan Levine at the newly-opened Children's Urgent Care at this intersection. It's a perfect use!" Marks said.
Children's Urgent Care treats patients under 18. It also has locations in Bel Air and Westminster.
Its opening is a sign of hope in an area that is awaiting further development after the Starbucks across the street closed, and nearby Pizza Hut and Hooters shuttered.
"The closure of Starbucks was a psychological and economic loss here, but that spot is now up for sale," Marks said. "Investors are eyeing redevelopment opportunities to the west, and the county has resurfaced much of Joppa Road."
Children's Urgent Care of Towson is at 1641 East Joppa Road. It is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The pediatric practice treats minor illnesses and injuries. It offers vaccinations, school physicals, laboratory services, vaccinations and immunizations and also has diagnostic x-ray services.
