TOWSON, MD - Police said an 8-year-old girl died after a shooting in the Towson precinct on Wednesday night. A juvenile was charged on Thursday, authorities reported.

Officers called to the 6300 block of Sherwood Road for a reported shooting around 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, said they found a child in the basement who had been shot.

The critically injured child was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, police said.

"While homicide detectives believe the shooting ... was an isolated incident," Baltimore County police spokesperson Joy Stewart said in a statement on Thursday, "the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation."

On Thursday afternoon, police said a juvenile was charged, and the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office and Department of Juvenile Services are handling the case.

Patch does not publish the names of juveniles who have been charged as such, and the Baltimore County Police Department advised it is legally prohibited from releasing any additional information about the victim or suspect due to their ages.
