TOWSON - It may be another great year to support the Towson Tigers basketball team! The Colonial Athletic Association has announced the results of its preseason poll, and Towson is the unanimous favorite to win the division.
CAA polled all thirteen of its coaches to determine who they think is most likely to win the division in the 2022-2023 season. Twelve of the coaches selected Towson as the favorite to win. Towson’s head coach Pat Skerry could not vote for his team due to the rules of the poll.
Towson scored 144 points in the poll and was followed by a three-team group. Hofstra (122), defending CAA champion Delaware (121), and Charleston (119) were all separated by a total of three points in the voting.
The poll also selected the CAA first team members, with three Towson players making the list. Guard Cam Holden, forward Charles Thompson, and guard Nicolas Timberlake all grabbed spots. The remaining two positions were filled by 2022 CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada from Hofstra and Delaware’s Jameer Nelson Jr.
Towson is coming off a 25-win season and a regular season division crown they shared with UNCW.
Towson coach Pat Skerry is returning for another season, along with the majority of the offensive firepower which made Towson such a threat during the 2021-2022 season. Holden, Thompson, Timberlake, and 3-point sharpshooter Jason Gibson, are all returning for Towson this winter.
Star players on Towson’s signature defense, such as Charles Thompson, are also returning. Additionally, The Tigers brought Division II Player of the Year Sekou Skylla to SECU Arena this winter.
The 2022-2023 regular season begins Nov. 7, with 10 CAA teams in action. Conference play will start on Dec. 28, when all 13 CAA teams will play.
