TOWSON - The former "Bel-Loc" Starbucks in Towson is set to become a Nigerian restaurant.
Suya Spot, a restaurant in Owings Mills at Metro Centre, will open a new location at the busy corner of Loch Raven Boulevard and Joppa Road.
The restaurant is named after "Suya," a traditional West African skewered meat dish for which it has become famous. Their menu includes a variety of stews, skewers, and Yam dishes commonly found in Nigeria and across West Africa.
The site was home to a Starbucks until around a year ago when the cafe closed due to safety concerns. In a Facebook post from January 2022, County Councilman David Marks said the area has been prone to crime.
In an effort to reduce crime and convince Starbucks to return to the location, Baltimore County leaders amended the "Padlock Law," which permits the Chief of Police to take action against properties with repeated public nuisance violations.
Despite this effort, Starbucks has moved on from the location.
