BALTIMORE COUNTY - A Baltimore County grand jury has indicted a former Gilman teacher on 16 counts of offenses involving a minor.
38-year-old Chris Bendann faces charges of sexual abuse, rape, and more for alleged inappropriate conduct during his time as a teacher at the Gilman all-boys private school.
According to charging documents, Bendann was a teacher at Gilman from 2007 to 2023. One victim told police that the abuse started when he was in 8th grade.
Charging documents allege that Bendann would give kids rides home after they had been drinking to hide it from their parents. In exchange for the rides, the victim said that Bendann would “make them run around naked” at Meadowood Park and the hill at St. Pauls.
According to charging documents, Bendann would request nude photos from him and threatened to expose the victim if they weren’t provided. Bendann was blocked from communicating with the victim but would harass and threaten their friends if he wasn’t supplied with inappropriate photos.
Charging documents also allege that Bendann forced the victim to “touch himself” and perform other sexual acts.
On February 3, police executed a search warrant at Bendann’s residence and arrested him.
Baltimore Circuit Judge Jan Marshal Alexander granted a request to release Bendann from the Baltimore County Detention Center last week, pending trial.
Bendann has maintained his innocence through his attorney, Kobie Flowers.
