TIMONIUM - Baltimore County Public Schools is looking to provide emergency capacity relief for students at Hampton Elementary School in Timonium.

The school system has scheduled a public information meeting to discuss potential boundary changes and other relief measures at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, in the Parkville High School cafeteria.

A sizeable protest at a Baltimore County school board meeting in March spurred the meeting. Parents of Hampton Elementary students said that the overcrowding stems from a 2020 decision to use Hampton to relieve overcrowding at Pleasant Plains Elementary. The Pleasant Plains capacity relief was intended to shift about 100 to Hampton Elementary, but parents say closer to 300 students made the move.

According to the Board, presenters will discuss options for capacity relief at Hampton at the meeting, including possible reorganization of some neighborhoods now zoned for Pleasant Plains Elementary School and Cromwell Valley Elementary Magnet School.

BCPS also plans to launch a survey about Hampton’s capacity relief after a board meeting on May 22. The survey is anticipated to run from May 22 through 11:59 p.m. on May 29, 2023.
