BALTIMORE COUNTY - In a bid to bridge the digital divide, the Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) has launched a service allowing eligible adults to borrow a Wi-Fi-enabled Chromebook, a high-speed 5G LTE internet router, or both for up to six months. The initiative aims to assist adult residents needing internet connectivity at home.

The offering is open to any adult BCPL customer who is a Baltimore County resident and holds a good-standing library card. Those without a library card can sign up for an e-card number, enabling access to the library's electronic resources.

However, only customers residing within the county are eligible due to grant restrictions. Those living outside the county boundaries can contact LTL Support at 410-887-0932 to learn about other connectivity programs.

Devices can be borrowed for 90 days with one potential 90-day renewal. Subsequently, the devices must be returned, or they will be deactivated.

There's a limit of one router per household, capable of supporting up to 30 devices. As for Chromebooks, each eligible adult in a household may borrow one, and children can log on using their Baltimore County Public School credentials.

Throughout the lending period, the Long-Term Lending Team will contact customers to assist with Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) signup to establish permanent in-home internet access. Interested individuals can apply by completing the Long-Term Lending application form.

The team will confirm the pick-up branch and the expected delivery date upon approval. Further information is available on the BCPL website.
