TOWSON - On Thursday, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced its rebranding to the Coastal Athletic Association. Despite the name change, the acronym remains the same - CAA, as does the logo.

According to the CAA, the name change reflects the conference's expansion, now stretching from Massachusetts to South Carolina. The CAA recently announced the addition of five institutions: Campbell, Hampton, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, and Stony Brook.

"The Conference's new name represents a culmination of its efforts over the past three years to expand its membership, solidify its geographic footprint, and affirm its long-standing mission through a new vision statement that emphasizes that CAA institutions work together to advance nationally competitive college athletic programs," CAA commissioner Joe D'Antonio said in a news release.

With these new additions, the CAA Football Conference now boasts an impressive total of 15 schools. These include the University at Albany, Campbell University, the University of Delaware, Elon University, Hampton University, the University of Maine, Monmouth University, the University of New Hampshire, North Carolina A&T State University, the University of Rhode Island, the University of Richmond, Stony Brook University, Towson University, Villanova University, and William & Mary.
