BALTIMORE COUNTY - In a collaborative effort to offer enriching summer activities for youth, the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, Delegate Carl Jackson, and local community leaders announced the launch of a new Summer Basketball League on Thursday.

Slated to kick off in June 2024, the league aims to create a safe, fun, and interactive platform for young athletes across the county. A public announcement and celebration of the new league is scheduled for Sunday, August 27, at Overlea High School's gymnasium (5401 Kenwood Ave) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature exhibition games involving local middle and high school athletes. In addition, elementary school-aged children can participate in skills and drills development sessions.

"Our commitment to delivering superior recreational opportunities extends beyond enhancing our current facilities or introducing new locations," Bob Smith, Director of the Baltimore County Recreation & Parks Department, said. "While we have made significant strides in those areas recently, fostering the expansion of our program offerings is equally vital. We extend our gratitude to County Executive Olszewski and Delegate Jackson for their invaluable support, which has been instrumental in inaugurating this promising new chapter in department initiatives."
