BALTIMORE COUNTY - Baltimore County and the National Weather Service (NWS) have issued an alert for portions of central and northern Maryland, warning of a wind storm that may cause “widespread power outages.”
A high wind warning is in effect from noon on Saturday through midnight on Sunday. According to the NWS, Southwest winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph by Saturday afternoon, with gusts peaking around 60 mph on Saturday evening. The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory classifies damaging winds as those exceeding 50-60 mph.
Baltimore County is warning residents that the winds “will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.”
All residents are advised to avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches during the storm.
